Thomas Frank Acknowledges Pochettino's Strong Start at Chelsea, Mirroring His Initial Tottenham Success.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has openly admired Mauricio Pochettino, acknowledging the significant impact the former Spurs manager had on the club. Frank's comments come after matching Pochettino's start to his Tottenham tenure, further highlighting the Argentine's lasting legacy in North London.

Frank, who took over as Tottenham head coach in June 2025 after leaving Brentford, has navigated a mixed start to the season. Despite a recent 0-0 draw against Monaco in the Champions League that was met with some disapproval from fans, Frank's overall record mirrors Pochettino's initial run. Both managers secured six wins in their first 13 matches. Frank's Spurs have also scored more and conceded fewer goals than Pochettino's side did at the same stage.

"Yeah, it's not only that example but I think it's a good example because of course Pochettino is a legend here," Frank stated, recognizing Pochettino's status at the club. He further reflected on Pochettino's achievements, "What he built, what he was part of achieving, I think it is definitely a spell I looked at when I was not here and of course I was very aware of when I got offered the job".

Pochettino arrived at Tottenham in the 2014-15 season and quickly established himself as a pivotal figure, leading the team to a Champions League runner-up finish in 2019. His tenure, the longest of any Tottenham manager in the 21st century, set a benchmark for future coaches.

Frank acknowledged the importance of stability in football management, noting, "I think any success in football history is more or less from clubs and teams that had the same head coach or manager for a long spell". Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has also lauded Frank's impact, particularly highlighting the team's improved defensive solidity. Defoe pointed out that Tottenham's defensive performance has improved significantly under Frank, who makes his teams solid.

Pochettino's managerial career has taken him to various clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. His time at Chelsea concluded in May 2024 after a single season. Despite guiding the Blues to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, the club and Pochettino mutually agreed to part ways. He is now the manager of the United States Men's National Team (USMNT).

Meanwhile, Frank's move to Tottenham followed a successful spell at Brentford. After arriving at Brentford in 2018, Frank led the Bees to the Premier League and established them as a competitive force. His departure was met with sadness from Brentford fans, who appreciated his contributions to the club.

As Frank continues his journey with Tottenham, the comparison to Pochettino serves as both a reminder of the club's recent history and a source of inspiration. While challenges remain, Frank's admiration for Pochettino's legacy suggests a desire to build a similarly successful and enduring era at Tottenham Hotspur.
