Hamilton's Two Goals Lead the Devils to a Decisive 3-1 Win Against the Sharks in a Thrilling Match

Dougie Hamilton's two power-play goals propelled the New Jersey Devils to a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night at the Prudential Center. The win marked the Devils' seventh straight victory, extending their winning streak after an opening-night loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Sharks, fresh off a 6-5 overtime win against the New York Rangers that snapped a six-game losing streak, couldn't overcome Hamilton's dominance and the Devils' strong defense. Goalie Jake Allen made 16 saves, improving his record to 4-0-0. Yaroslav Askarov of the Sharks had 27 saves.

San Jose took an early lead with a power-play goal of their own. William Eklund scored his second goal of the season at 2:25 into the first period after Macklin Celebrini stole the puck and passed it to Eklund.

Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Devils responded with two power-play goals from Hamilton in the second period. The first goal came 40 seconds into the period, during a power play that carried over from the end of the first. After a scramble in front of the net, the puck found its way to Hamilton in the left circle, and he fired it into the top left corner while Askarov was down.

Hamilton's second goal came at 9:08 of the second period on another power play. Jack Hughes skated the puck around the back of the net and passed it to Hamilton in the slot, who quickly shot it past Askarov. This marked the third time in Hamilton's career that he has scored two power-play goals in a game. Hamilton also added an assist during the game.

Connor Brown sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 47 seconds remaining in the game, his fourth of the season. Nico Hischier contributed with two assists for the Devils.

The Devils outshot the Sharks 13-0 in the second period.

The Devils will host the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday to open a home-and-home set. The Sharks will continue their four-game road trip in Minnesota on Sunday.
