Juventus have today announced the sacking of head coach Igor Tudor following a poor run of form. The decision comes after the team's 1-0 defeat to Lazio, which marked their eighth consecutive match without a win in all competitions. The club has confirmed that Massimo Brambilla, head coach of the reserve team, will take over as interim manager.
Tudor's departure marks the end of a short seven-month tenure, having only been appointed in March as a replacement for Thiago Motta. Despite initial promise, including winning their first three league games against Parma, Genoa and Inter, Juventus have struggled to maintain consistency. A string of draws and recent losses to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio have ultimately led to Tudor's dismissal. Juventus have failed to score in their last four matches, a run of 394 minutes without a goal - a drought the club hasn't experienced since 1991.
"Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as coach of the men's first team, along with his staff,” the club said in a statement. The club also thanked Tudor and his staff for their "professionalism and dedication over the past few months" and wished them well for the future.
Massimo Brambilla steps in as interim coach and will be in charge for the upcoming Serie A match against Udinese. Brambilla, who is currently the head coach of Juventus' NextGen team, will look to steady the ship while the Juventus board searches for a permanent replacement.
The "Old Lady" currently sits in eighth place in Serie A with 12 points, outside the European qualification spots. This is the first time Juventus have changed their manager before November in a season since 1969, when Luis Carniglia was replaced by Ercole Rabitti. Names being discussed in the Italian press as potential permanent replacements include Luciano Spalletti, Roberto Mancini, and Raffaele Palladino.
