Rabat, January 9, 2026 – Tonight, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the host nation Morocco will face Cameroon in a highly anticipated quarter-final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations. The game is scheduled to kick off at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
Morocco, aiming to reach their first semi-final since 2004, advanced to this stage after a 1-0 victory over Tanzania in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Cameroon secured their quarter-final spot with a 2-1 win against South Africa.
This match marks the fourth time these two teams have met in the AFCON finals. Historically, Cameroon has been the more dominant side in these encounters, remaining undefeated against Morocco in their previous AFCON clashes with two wins and one draw. However, Morocco has won the last two meetings in all competitions. These include a 2-0 victory in the AFCON 2019 qualification and a 4-0 win in the 2020 CHAN semi-final.
Cameroon has a rich history in the Africa Cup of Nations, having won the title five times. Their victories came in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 and 2017. The Indomitable Lions have a knack for disrupting host nations' dreams, having eliminated them on seven occasions. On the other hand, Morocco is determined to reach the semi-finals for the first time since they were runners-up in 2004.
According to pre-match analysis, Cameroon's predicted lineup includes Epassy as goalkeeper; Kotto, Tolo, and Malone in defense; Nagida, Namaso, Baleba, Ebong, and Tchamadeu in midfield; and Mbeumo and Kofane as forwards.
Cameroon faced AFCON hosts 13 times previously, recording six wins, five draws and two defeats. Their only losses against AFCON hosts came in 1970 against Sudan and in 1996 against South Africa.
Morocco is making its fifth appearance in the AFCON quarter-finals, after their Round of 16 win against Tanzania. They have won only one quarter-final match, a 3-1 victory against Algeria in 2004.
The winner of this quarter-final will advance to face either Algeria or Nigeria in the semi-finals.
