WWE Superstar Chelsea Green traded the wrestling ring for the stands of Stamford Bridge this past Saturday, revealing a lifelong allegiance to Premier League's Chelsea FC. Green's appearance at the Chelsea vs. Brentford match wasn't just a casual celebrity sighting; it was a homecoming of sorts for the Canadian wrestler, whose British heritage has fueled her support for the Blues since childhood.
Green's connection to Chelsea FC goes beyond sharing a name. In a recent interview, she revealed that her British grandparents and mother instilled a love for the club early on. Having spent part of her childhood in Devon, England, Green was immersed in the world of football, with Chelsea FC quickly becoming her team. She even recounted a cherished Chelsea beanie that she kept in her primary school safety kit.
"I've been a Chelsea fan for life!" Green exclaimed. "My grandparents are British, my mum is British, my cousins and uncle are here, and I also lived in Devon when I was seven and eight years old. My family introduced me to football through Chelsea, although my grandpa was an Aston Villa fan and we had a little rivalry going".
Despite a demanding schedule that takes her across the globe, Green has closely followed Chelsea FC's progress. While admitting it's "tough to watch the games" due to constant travel and time zone differences, she makes every effort to keep up with the team's performance. She even sent a congratulatory message to the club after their Club World Cup win.
Her visit to Stamford Bridge marked her first live football match, an experience she eagerly anticipated. "No, this is my first live football match – and I don't know what to expect. I think that's a beautiful thing. I'm going to have a drink, enjoy the game and try to be at one with the Chelsea supporters," she said prior to the game.
Green witnessed a 2-0 victory over Brentford, with goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer securing the win for Chelsea. She watched the match from the Dugout Club, soaking in the atmosphere and cheering on her beloved Blues. Other notable figures were also in attendance, including two-time NBA All-Star Joakim Noah.
The WWE star also commented on the crossover between WWE and football fans, noting the adaptation of football chants into wrestling events, particularly in Europe. "The amazing crossover I've seen between football and WWE is the chants you guys have. They have trickled into wrestling now and we all love it so much. One of our favourite parts about coming to Europe are the football chants that we get now in the arenas," she stated.
Chelsea Green's appearance at Stamford Bridge highlights the global appeal of both WWE and Premier League football. It also underscores the power of sports to connect people to their roots and passions, regardless of their profession. While Green continues to make waves in the wrestling world, she remains a devoted fan of Chelsea FC, proving that her love for the Blues runs deep.
