Amidst swirling transfer rumors linking Enzo Fernández to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has addressed the speculation, reaffirming the midfielder's importance to the club. Reports have surfaced suggesting that Chelsea might be open to selling the Argentine World Cup winner if a suitable offer is presented, attracting the attention of both Real Madrid and PSG.
Fernández, 25, has been a key figure for Chelsea since his arrival from Benfica in February 2023 for a then-British record fee of £106.8 million. He has even captained the team on several occasions. Despite his significance, some reports indicate that Chelsea no longer considers him "untouchable" and would be willing to negotiate a sale for the right price. His contract runs well into 2032. This shift in stance is possibly motivated by the club's need to rebalance their finances and fund a new wave of recruitment.
Real Madrid are reportedly eager to add a world-class midfielder to their squad, with President Florentino Perez keen on rectifying the failure to sign Martin Zubimendi in the summer of 2025. PSG, reigning Champions League winners, are also said to be interested in bolstering their midfield with Fernández's talent.
Adding fuel to the fire, reports from L'Equipe suggest that Fernández himself was considering his future at Chelsea after another turbulent season. The departure of Enzo Maresca as head coach may have also contributed to this consideration.
However, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has downplayed the transfer talk. "It means nothing to me," Rosenior told reporters. "When you're a world-class player, there is always going to be speculation you cannot control". He emphasized Fernández's commitment to Chelsea, stating, "Enzo has been outstanding in the time I have worked with him... He's a Chelsea player. I hope we're going to have a successful working relationship in the long term and short term". Rosenior also highlighted Fernández's versatility and skillset, praising his technical ability, ground coverage, finishing, and goal-scoring capabilities. "A player of his level can do many different things," he added.
Chelsea's apparent willingness to consider offers for Fernández marks a significant shift from their previous stance, where he was considered a cornerstone of the team. This development has alerted top European clubs, who were previously under the impression that the midfielder was unattainable. Despite the speculation, Rosenior insists that Fernández's future remains at Chelsea, dealing a blow to the hopes of PSG and Real Madrid. It remains to be seen whether the allure of Real Madrid or PSG will sway Fernández, or if he will remain committed to Chelsea under Rosenior's leadership.
