Thursday night was one for the record books for the Windsor Spitfires, as they dominated the Sudbury Wolves in a 5-2 victory at the Sudbury Community Arena. Beyond the two points earned in the standings, the game was highlighted by significant career milestones achieved by three key Spitfires players: Liam Greentree, Nathan Villeneuve, and Joey Costanzo.
Captain Liam Greentree, a New York Rangers prospect, led the charge, reaching the 300-point mark in his Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career. Greentree's performance included a goal and two assists, earning him First Star of the Game honors. His consistent presence on the ice has been a major factor in the Spitfires' success this season.
Veteran forward Nathan Villeneuve, a Kraken prospect, also etched his name in the record book, collecting a pair of assists to hit 200 career OHL points. Villeneuve's strong two-way play and effectiveness on the power play have made him a valuable asset to the team.
Between the pipes, goaltender Joey Costanzo secured his 100th OHL victory, a remarkable achievement that speaks to his consistency and longevity. Costanzo is only the seventh goaltender in OHL history to reach this milestone. In the game against the Wolves, Costanzo turned aside 14 shots, adding another poised performance to his impressive season. Through 36 appearances this season, Costanzo sits second in the OHL with a 2.11 goals-against average and ninth with a .911 save percentage, both career highs. He also ranks third in the league with 27 wins. Costanzo came to the Spitfires from the Niagara IceDogs in September 2022 and has become a cornerstone for the team, earlier this season surpassing Michael DiPietro's franchise record for wins.
The Spitfires broke the scoreless tie midway through the second period on a power play, with both Greentree and Villeneuve contributing to the offense. Windsor carried that momentum into the third, erupting for three goals, including two more on the power play, to put the game out of reach. The team's special teams were firing on all cylinders, finishing the night 3-for-4 on the power play while holding Sudbury scoreless on five man-advantage opportunities.
While Genc Ula had a goal and an assist for the Wolves, the night belonged to the Spitfires, who showcased their offensive depth, strong goaltending, and celebrated the major career milestones of Greentree, Villeneuve, and Costanzo. This dominant road performance was a night to remember for the Windsor Spitfires.
