Nicky Butt Highlights Manchester United's Improved Mindset, Predicting a Top Four Finish for His Former Team.

Nicky Butt, the former Manchester United midfielder and part of the famed "Class of '92", has voiced his support for his old club's chances of securing a top-four finish this season. Butt highlighted a shift in the team's mentality as a key factor driving their improved performances.

Butt's comments come after Manchester United's recent strong run of form, including a dramatic late draw against West Ham, secured by a stunning volley from Benjamin Sesko in the 96th minute. This point helped maintain their pursuit of a Champions League spot. Speaking on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Butt emphasized that if Manchester United get the right players, they could win the Premier League next season. He believes that the current landscape of the Premier League, with no single team dominating, presents an opportunity for United to compete at the highest level.

"If you asked me this question two months ago I would have said no but now it looks like we're going to get back into the Champions League," Butt stated. He added that Champions League qualification significantly enhances the club's appeal to potential signings, increasing the likelihood of attracting better players with more quality. "If they get back into the Champions League and then get their recruitment right, I think United will have a chance, yeah".

Butt acknowledged that he had previously stated that Manchester United were "five or six years off winning the league". However, he now feels that the team could challenge for the title next season due to the even competition. He noted that Arsenal, while a great team with a great squad, do not instill the same fear in opponents as dominant teams of the past like Manchester City or the Manchester United and Arsenal sides of his era.

Throughout his 12 years at Manchester United (1992-2004), Butt was known for his tenacious and combative style of play. Despite often being overshadowed by more high-profile teammates, his defensive stability and aggression in midfield were crucial to the team's success. Butt won six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and the Champions League as part of the treble-winning team in 1999.

After leaving Manchester United, Butt played for Newcastle United and Birmingham City, later finishing his career in Hong Kong with South China. He also earned 39 caps for England, representing his country in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2004.

Butt transitioned into coaching after retiring, holding various roles within Manchester United's academy before leaving in March 2021. He is currently a co-owner of League Two club Salford City.
