James Allemby, the coach of Hong Kong tennis star Coleman Wong Chak-lam, has issued a warning to fans regarding a scam circulating on the Wire app. Scammers are creating fake social media accounts impersonating Allemby and offering fraudulent VIP packages for the upcoming Ultimate Tennis Series event in Hong Kong.
The deceptive packages include holiday experiences, stays at five-star hotels, dinner with Wong, and access to private practice sessions ahead of the event. These packages are being offered for as much as US$10,000.
Allemby took to his official Instagram account to alert fans about the scam after discovering the fraudulent activity on the Wire app. The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the warning on October 1, 2025.
Coleman Wong, 21, is currently the highest-ranked male tennis player from Hong Kong. Wong achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 128 on September 30, 2024. Wong's coach, James Allemby, has been instrumental in his development. Wong's preferred playing surface is hard court.
Wong has achieved several milestones in his junior and professional career. As a junior player, he won the US Open boys' doubles title in 2021 and the Australian Open boys' doubles title in 2022. In August 2025, Wong became the first male player from Hong Kong to reach the main draw of a Grand Slam since the Open Era began. He also became the first man from Hong Kong to win a Grand Slam singles match and reach the third round of the US Open.
In March 2025, Wong made headlines at the Miami Open, defeating world No. 13 Ben Shelton. His victory marked the first time a player from Hong Kong had defeated a Top 20 player since the ATP rankings were published in 1973.
The Ultimate Tennis Series event in Hong Kong is highly anticipated, and Wong's participation is expected to draw significant attention. Fans should be cautious of scams and verify the legitimacy of any offers before making payments.
