Jets' Gustav Nyquist sidelined with a mysterious injury; uncertain return date looms for the Winnipeg winger.

Winnipeg Jets forward Gustav Nyquist is sidelined day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. The announcement was made by head coach Scott Arniel, confirming that the veteran forward will miss Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Nyquist sustained the injury during the first period of Thursday's 6-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. He managed to record an assist in 1:28 of ice time before departing the game. According to Arniel, Nyquist "tweaked something" during his brief time on the ice.

The 36-year-old Nyquist, who signed a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Jets in the offseason, has accumulated five assists in 11 games this season. He had been playing on the third line, alongside Nino Niederreiter and Morgan Barron.

Nyquist's absence adds to the Jets' growing list of injured players. Adam Lowry is still recovering from hip surgery, Cole Perfetti is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, and Dylan Samberg is out with a broken wrist. However, all three are skating and are expected to return at various points in November.

Despite these injuries, the Jets have had a strong start to the season with a record of 8-3-0. After their game against the Penguins, the team will embark on a six-game road trip out west.

Nyquist is a veteran of 14 NHL seasons, having previously played for the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, and Nashville Predators. He has only played more than 60 games in a season once in the past four seasons, which was in 2023-24 with the Nashville Predators when he played 81 games, scoring 23 goals and 75 points.
