Following Patrick Vieira's dismissal as Genoa's head coach, Mario Balotelli didn't hold back in expressing his feelings, posting a blunt message on social media. The Italian striker, currently without a club, took to Instagram to share his reaction to the news of Vieira's departure, initially posting "Karma is a b*tch" and "God sees all and gives".
Balotelli didn't stop there, he tagged Vieira's official account in a more detailed rant. He expressed that Genoa can now "finally focus on people who truly love the atmosphere, the fans, and the badge," and who believe Genoa deserves to be at the top. He further added that the "great work done by Gilardino and Zangrillo… was simply exploited selfishly and poorly by those who came after, profiting from what they had built with effort, respect, and passion". Alberto Zangrillo was Genoa President from 2021 to January 2025, and then remained on the board of directors until leaving by mutual consent last week. Balotelli finished his message by urging focus on Genoa and its people, encouraging the team.
Vieira's time at Genoa was notably unsuccessful. The club is currently at the bottom of the Serie A table, having secured only three points from nine matches, all from draws. This poor start to the season ultimately led to the decision to part ways.
The animosity between Balotelli and Vieira reportedly dates back to their time together at Nice. Balotelli's recent social media outburst suggests that the issues between them remain unresolved. His words have sparked considerable reaction, highlighting the tension between the two figures.
Balotelli's remarks have added another layer of intrigue to Vieira's departure from Genoa. While the club looks to move forward and address its current standing in Serie A, Balotelli's comments serve as a reminder of the personal dynamics that can often play a role in the world of professional soccer.
