Footballer Injured: Huntingdon Train Stabbing Leaves Player Hospitalised Amidst Rising Concerns About Rail Safety.

A professional footballer is among those hospitalised following a mass stabbing on a train near Huntingdon on Saturday evening. Jonathan Gjoshe, a defender for Scunthorpe United, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the attack and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The incident occurred on an LNER train bound for London shortly after it departed from Peterborough station. Passengers activated the emergency alarms, prompting the train to be diverted to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Anthony Williams, 32, who has no fixed address, has been charged with multiple offenses in connection with the incident. These include 10 counts of attempted murder related to the Huntingdon stabbings, one count of actual bodily harm, and one count of possession of a bladed article. He also faces an additional charge of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article related to a separate incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station in the early hours of November 1st. Williams has been remanded in custody following a hearing at Peterborough Magistrates' Court.

Eleven people were hospitalised after the attack, with five having since been discharged. Scunthorpe United released a statement confirming that Gjoshe was among the victims. The club stated that Gjoshe sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital. They added that they are unable to provide further updates due to the ongoing investigation.

"Scunthorpe United can confirm registered player Jonathan Gjoshe was one of the victims affected by the shocking attack on an LNER train bound for London on Saturday evening," the club said in a statement. "We can confirm that Jonathan sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack but currently remains in hospital".

The club also conveyed their support for Gjoshe and all the victims of the attack. "Everyone at the club, from the Board, management and his teammates, along with all staff behind the scenes, sends our heartfelt well wishes to Jonathan for a full recovery, which is also extended to all the victims on board the train," the statement read.

Gjoshe, 22, is a defender for Scunthorpe United, which is a National League side. The British Transport Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
