Report: Anaheim Ducks Eye Potential Acquisition of New York Rangers' Star Player, According to Insider.

Insider Sees Ducks Making a Play for Rangers Superstar

Anaheim, CA – The Anaheim Ducks might be emerging as a surprising contender for New York Rangers star forward Artemi Panarin, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. On the latest "32 Thoughts" podcast, Friedman suggested that Anaheim could be a potential destination for Panarin if he enters the free agent market.

Panarin, a pending unrestricted free agent, has yet to agree to a new contract with the Rangers. While the veteran winger reportedly prefers to remain in New York, speculation is growing about what might happen if contract talks stall. "I was kind of wondering if a guy like Panarin might make some sense there," Friedman said, referring to Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek, who has gained a reputation for making bold moves during his tenure.

The Ducks are currently building around a core of young talent, including Mason McTavish, Jackson LaCombe, Leo Carlsson, and Troy Terry. Adding a player like Panarin could accelerate their transition from rebuilding to Stanley Cup contention. Friedman also noted the connection between Panarin and current Ducks head coach Joel Quenneville, who coached Panarin during his rookie season with the Chicago Blackhawks.

However, any potential deal remains speculative. Friedman clarified that he has not heard any concrete indications of trade interest from either side. The possibility of Anaheim pursuing a high-impact scorer like Panarin would signal a significant shift in the team's competitive timeline. The Rangers must first determine their plans for Panarin before Verbeek can consider making a move.

This isn't the first time the Ducks and Rangers have been linked in trade rumors. In June, there were reports of a potential deal that would send Chris Kreider to Anaheim. However, that trade hinged on Kreider waiving his no-trade clause. Ultimately, Kreider was sent to Anaheim. At the time, it was reported that Carey Terrance and a second-round pick would go to the Rangers in exchange for Kreider.

Acquiring Kreider brought a veteran presence to a young Ducks team. Kreider's experience and leadership could be invaluable as the Ducks aim to return to the playoffs. The Ducks already have several former Rangers on their roster, including Jacob Trouba and Ryan Strome. Trouba, who was traded to Anaheim in December, said he saw the franchise's vision for the future.

The Ducks' strong start to the season has fueled optimism in Anaheim. With a mix of young talent and experienced veterans, the Ducks are aiming to make a playoff push. Whether they pursue Panarin remains to be seen, but the team's interest in adding elite talent is clear.
