Cristiano Ronaldo has recently hinted at his impending retirement from professional football, revealing that the decision is near and anticipating a highly emotional farewell. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, the 40-year-old Al Nassr and Portugal forward, who has an impressive record of 952 career goals, admitted that he "probably will cry" when he finally hangs up his boots.
When asked about his retirement plans, Ronaldo stated, "Soon. But I think I will be prepared". He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, saying, "It will be tough, of course. It will be difficult? Yes. Probably (I) will cry, yes… I'm (an) open person. (It) will be very, very difficult, yes". Despite the anticipated emotional toll, Ronaldo emphasized that he has been preparing for this transition for a long time. "But Piers, I prepare my future since (the age of) 25, 26, 27 years old, I prepare (for) my future. So I think I will be capable to support that pressure," he explained.
While he didn't specify an exact date, Ronaldo's recent statements suggest his retirement is closer than ever. In the interview, he reflected on his career and the difficulty of leaving the sport. "Nothing will ever replace football" once he retires, explaining that “nothing compares to the adrenaline you feel when you score a goal". However, he recognizes that "everything has a beginning and an end" and believes he will be ready when the time comes.
Ronaldo also alluded to his plans for life after football, stating his desire to dedicate more time to his family and explore his other interests. "I'm going to have more time for me, have more time for my family, to raise my kids … I want to be more a family person, more present. Also, to have my own hobbies. I like to see UFC, the fights. I like padel," he said. He also expressed interest in expanding his knowledge of his companies. "I like and I want to learn more about my companies. I'll never be a YouTuber, of course, but I want to be there. I'm going to spend more time on that to learn," Ronaldo added.
Ronaldo, who is currently under contract with Al Nassr until 2027, has previously stated his intention to retire with the Saudi Arabian club. While a move to coaching may not be on the cards, he is preparing for a future where he can enjoy his passions and spend quality time with his loved ones.
In addition to discussing his retirement, Ronaldo shared his thoughts on Manchester United, his former club, now managed by his fellow Portuguese, Ruben Amorim. While acknowledging Amorim's efforts, Ronaldo cautioned against expecting "miracles," stating that the team needs to change, and it's not only about the coach and players. Despite his departure, Ronaldo affirmed his love for the club, saying, "Manchester United is still in my heart".
As Cristiano Ronaldo approaches the end of his illustrious career, the football world prepares to bid farewell to one of the greatest players of all time. With his unparalleled achievements, unwavering dedication, and passion for the game, Ronaldo's legacy will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.
