David Beckham Receives Knighthood from King Charles III: An 'Extra Special' Honor for the England Legend

Sir David Beckham, the legendary English footballer, has been knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The 50-year-old Beckham, honored for his services to sports and charity, described the event as the "proudest moment" of his career.

Beckham, accompanied by his wife Victoria, his parents Sandra and David, accepted the knighthood in a ceremony also attended by Japanese-British author Kazuo Ishiguro and West End star Elaine Paige, who also received honors. Victoria Beckham designed the grey suit that Beckham wore. Beckham mentioned that King Charles III has inspired his looks over the years and was "quite impressed" with his suit.

Reflecting on the honor, Sir David stated, "I couldn't be prouder... People know how patriotic I am — I love my country". He also acknowledged his good fortune in his career, saying that receiving a knighthood was beyond anything he had ever imagined. "To be honest, a young boy from the east end of London, born in Leytonstone, and here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King – the most important and the most respected institution in the world – it's quite a moment," Beckham added.

Beckham's contributions extend beyond his achievements on the pitch. He has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005 and launched the "7 Fund" in 2015 to aid children at risk, including those affected by the Ebola crisis. The fund is named after his Manchester United jersey number. He also played a role in London's successful bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Having made his England debut on September 1, 1996, at the age of 21, Beckham went on to captain the team for six years, earning a total of 115 caps. He is the only English footballer to score in three different World Cups. His career includes a historic treble-winning campaign in 1999 with Manchester United, securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles. Besides Manchester United, Beckham also played for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Beckham's knighthood places him among other British sports figures who have received the honor, including Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Kenny Dalglish. The award recognizes Beckham's impact on and off the field.

Sir David concluded, "It's extra special to receive a knighthood, for not just my sport but the important work I do with children".
