Craig Bellamy Focused on Wales' World Cup Bid; Dismisses Speculation About Coaching Celtic.

Craig Bellamy has dismissed any links with the vacant Celtic managerial position, stating that his sole focus remains on leading Wales in their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The announcement comes amidst speculation linking him to the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' departure, with Martin O'Neill currently serving as interim manager.

Bellamy, who was appointed Wales manager in July 2024, is under contract with the Welsh FA until 2028. Noel Mooney, the chief executive of the Welsh FA, has reinforced this commitment, stating that Bellamy is completely focused on the World Cup and reminded everyone that Bellamy is under contract.

"I can understand the links. I played there," Bellamy acknowledged, referring to his loan spell at Celtic in 2005. "But to me, I love what I'm doing at the present time. I'm completely focused on what's set to come". He further emphasized his dedication to Wales, adding, "That's all I'm focused on. It's cliched but I couldn't want anything else. It isn't on my radar and it won't be on my radar".

Wales currently sit third in their World Cup qualifying group, three points behind North Macedonia, who occupy the playoff spot. Belgium appears likely to win the group. Bellamy's side can secure a play-off place with victories over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia later this month. Should Wales fail to make the top two, their bid for the tournament would end this month; however, if they land a playoff spot, those games would take place in March 2026.

Bellamy's commitment to an attacking style of play has been lauded, with many believing his approach would make him a good fit for Celtic. Former Celtic player Joe Ledley has publicly endorsed Bellamy for the role, highlighting his attacking mindset, enthusiasm, and passion for football. "There have been a lot of links down here with Craig Bellamy," Ledley said. "He's had a fantastic start to his managerial career at Wales... The way Wales are playing has been fantastic - really attacking minded, always on the front foot. He'd be a perfect option for Celtic".

Despite the admiration from figures like Ledley and the links to Celtic, Bellamy's immediate future lies with Wales. The former Liverpool and Manchester City forward is determined to guide his nation to the World Cup, a goal that currently outweighs any potential interest in club management. Celtic's head of football operations, Paul Tisdale, is reportedly drawing up a shortlist of potential candidates following the departure of Rodgers.
