FIFA Introduces Inaugural Peace Prize at World Cup Draw Ceremony This December, Promoting Global Unity.

FIFA has announced the creation of a new peace prize, slated to be awarded for the first time at the World Cup draw in Washington on December 5. The award, known as the FIFA Peace Prize, will recognize outstanding contributions to peace.

According to FIFA, the prize aims to celebrate individuals who have demonstrated exceptional efforts in promoting peace. FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of acknowledging those dedicated to resolving conflicts and fostering unity, especially in an increasingly divided world. He stated that the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World, on behalf of the global football community, will recognize individuals who unite people and bring hope for future generations.

The inaugural FIFA Peace Prize will be presented by Infantino himself. The event is scheduled to take place during the World Cup draw, an event where the 48 participating teams will discover their opponents for the group stage. The draw will be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.

The announcement of the FIFA Peace Prize comes after President Donald Trump, who has a known close relationship with Infantino, was not selected for the Nobel Peace Prize last month. Trump had reportedly lobbied for the award. Furthermore, FIFA recently appointed Ivanka Trump to the board of a $100 million education project partially funded by the 2026 World Cup ticket sales.

FIFA has stated that the Peace Prize will be awarded annually "on behalf of fans from all around the world". The organization has yet to release specific criteria for selecting the recipient of the award but has emphasized that it will recognize "exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace".
