Dhruv Jurel's Unbeaten Ton Rescues India A After Rahul & Pant Fail vs South Africa A.

Bengaluru, November 6, 2025 - Dhruv Jurel's magnificent, unbeaten century propelled India A to a fighting total of 255 against South Africa A on the opening day of the second unofficial Test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground. After a top-order collapse that saw India A reeling at 59 for 4, Jurel's resilient knock not only rescued the innings but also showcased his potential for the upcoming Test series.

South Africa A's decision to bowl first was vindicated early on as their bowlers exploited the conditions, making life difficult for the Indian batsmen. Abhimanyu Easwaran was the first to fall, dismissed for a duck. KL Rahul, returning to the side, looked composed initially but could only manage 19 before being sent back to the pavilion. The wickets of Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal in quick succession further compounded India A's woes.

At 59 for 4, India A was in dire straits when Dhruv Jurel walked in. The 24-year-old, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, exhibited remarkable composure and technique, defying the South African attack with a blend of caution and aggression. Jurel launched his innings with a six off Prenelan Subrayen, signaling his intent to counter-attack. He then followed it up with two fours off Tiaan van Vuuren.

Captain Rishabh Pant's arrival at the crease provided some respite as he counter-attacked with his trademark aggressive style. However, his cameo was cut short at 24, leaving Jurel to anchor the innings with the lower order. Harsh Dubey and Akash Deep had brief stays at the crease, further increasing the pressure on Jurel.

Kuldeep Yadav joined Jurel, and together they forged a crucial 79-run partnership, lifting India A from 126/7 to 205/8. Jurel, who reached his half-century, continued to accumulate runs, displaying maturity and determination. After Kuldeep Yadav's dismissal, Jurel took the onus upon himself to guide the team past the 250 mark.

Jurel's century, his fourth in first-class cricket, came off 145 balls. He remained unbeaten on 132 off 175 balls, decorated with 12 fours and four sixes. His innings was a testament to his temperament and ability to perform under pressure.

Jurel's knock not only rescued India A but also helped him cross the 2000 first-class runs milestone. His current first-class run total stands at 2019, achieved at an average of just over 54.

The top-order collapse saw KL Rahul dismissed for 19 and Rishabh Pant managing only 24, putting extra significance on Jurel's innings.

With the Test series against South Africa looming, Jurel has made a strong statement with his impressive century, while Rahul and Pant will be looking to find form in the next innings.
