Nottingham Forest and Sturm Graz locked in tight Europa League clash ending in a goalless stalemate.

Nottingham Forest battled to a 0-0 draw against Sturm Graz in their Europa League match on Thursday, with Morgan Gibbs-White's missed penalty proving costly. The result extends Forest's winless run to three games.

In a game where chances were limited, particularly for the hosts who only mustered three shots, Forest created the better opportunities. Manager Sean Dyche, who took over from Ange Postecoglou in October, made seven changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Manchester United in preparation for Sunday's Premier League game against Leeds United. Key players like Elliot Anderson, Matz Sels, and Murillo were left out of the starting lineup.

Sturm Graz thought they had taken the lead in the first half when Maurice Malone found the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Forest then had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Emanuel Aiwu handled the ball in the box. However, Gibbs-White's penalty was saved by Sturm Graz goalkeeper Oliver Christensen.

Ryan Yates missed another good chance for Forest shortly after halftime, heading wide from a Gibbs-White cross. Nicolas Dominguez almost snatched a late winner, but his shot struck the crossbar.

Despite the draw, Dyche remains unbeaten in European football, excluding a defeat to Bournemouth, since taking charge, with Forest yet to concede a goal in Europe under his management following their 2-0 victory over Porto.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, Midtjylland defeated Celtic 3-1, while other matches saw Red Star Belgrade edge Lille 1-0 and Freiburg triumph over Nice 3-1. Aston Villa also played Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday, with heightened security measures in place.
