New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the sacrifices made by the mother of Indian women's cricket team pacer, Renuka Singh Thakur. The Prime Minister interacted with Renuka Singh, a key member of the Champion Indian Women's Cricket Team, and acknowledged her mother's significant role in shaping her daughter's successful career.
The interaction took place on November 5, 2025, at the Prime Minister’s residence, where he hosted the Women's World Cup-winning team. The Prime Minister congratulated the team on their victory and praised their resilience throughout the tournament, especially after facing initial setbacks. India secured their first ICC Women's Cricket World Cup victory on home soil, joining Australia, England, and New Zealand as winners. They defeated South Africa in the final by 52 runs, marking a historic moment for Indian cricket.
During the interaction, PM Modi specifically addressed Renuka Singh, expressing his respect for her mother's dedication. He said, "I salute your mother for contributing so much to your life even in difficult circumstances. As a single parent, she made many efforts to ensure your success. It is a very big thing for a mother to do so much for her daughter". He acknowledged the challenges she faced and the immense contribution she made to Renuka's career.
Renuka Singh played six matches in the recently concluded World Cup, taking three wickets and playing a crucial role in India's title-winning campaign.
