St. Louis, MO – In a thrilling contest at the Enterprise Center on Saturday night, the Seattle Kraken rallied to defeat the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in overtime, thanks to a game-tying goal by Chandler Stephenson with just two seconds remaining in regulation and a decisive overtime goal from Shane Wright. The victory marked the first of three games in the season series between the two teams.
The Blues came into the game looking to build on their recent 3-0 shutout win against the Buffalo Sabres. Meanwhile, the Kraken aimed to rebound from a tough 6-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
St. Louis jumped out to an early lead in the first period. Dylan Holloway capitalized on a Kraken turnover, intercepting a pass from Ryan Winterton and scoring an unassisted goal at 5:30 to make it 1-0. A few minutes later, the Blues extended their lead on a power play after the Kraken were penalized for having too many men on the ice. Dalibor Dvorsky, assisted by Pavel Buchnevich and Cam Fowler, scored at 9:40 to put St. Louis ahead 2-0.
In the second period, the Kraken began to mount their comeback. Ryker Evans scored his first goal of the game at 8:28, assisted by Eeli Tolvanen and Tye Kartye, narrowing the score to 2-1. Later in the period, Tolvanen scored a power-play goal at 15:25, assisted by Jordan Eberle and Vince Dunn, tying the game 2-2.
The third period saw the two teams trade goals. Jordan Kyrou, who was a healthy scratch in the Blues' previous game, put St. Louis ahead 3-2 at 5:10. With time ticking down and the Kraken pressing for an equalizer, Stephenson scored the game-tying goal with only two seconds left in regulation, sending the game into overtime.
Wright then sealed the victory for the Kraken, scoring 1:57 into overtime. St. Louis never touched the puck in overtime.
Philipp Grubauer made 16 saves for the Kraken. Meanwhile, Joel Hofer stopped 26 shots for the Blues.
The Kraken continue their road trip on Sunday against the Dallas Stars. The Blues return home to host the Calgary Flames.
