The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a record-breaking prize pool of $5.76 million for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final. This is more than double the amount offered in previous editions, highlighting the growing popularity and prestige of Test cricket's premier competition. The final will be held at Lord's on June 11 between South Africa and Australia.

The WTC Final will see South Africa and Australia compete for the coveted title. South Africa secured their place by topping the WTC25 standings, with series wins against Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, in addition to a drawn home series against India. Australia qualified after a dominant 3-1 victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The winner of the WTC Final will receive a staggering $3.6 million, a significant increase from the $1.6 million awarded in the 2021 and 2023 editions. The runners-up will also benefit, taking home $2.16 million, up from $800,000.

India, who finished third in the WTC standings, will receive $1.44 million (Rs 12.32 crore). New Zealand, finishing fourth, will take home $1.2 million.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed his excitement for the final, calling it "a true celebration of cricket". He wished both teams the best as they prepare for the prestigious match. South Africa's captain, Temba Bavuma, sees it as an opportunity to win an ICC title, while Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, is proud to defend their title at Lord's.

This final marks South Africa's first appearance in a WTC final. Australia will be aiming to defend their title after defeating India in 2023. The significant increase in prize money underscores the ICC's commitment to elevating the importance of Test cricket on the global stage.
