Oakmont, Pennsylvania, is set to host the 2025 U.S. Open, and among the 156 players vying for the coveted title are 14 prominent figures from the LIV Golf League. These players have secured their spots through various means, including past U.S. Open victories, high rankings, and qualifying events, ensuring a strong LIV presence at the prestigious tournament. Here’s a closer look at the LIV golfers competing and how they earned their places.

Leading the charge is Bryson DeChambeau, the defending U.S. Open champion. DeChambeau, known for his power and analytical approach, is aiming for his third U.S. Open title, having also won in 2020. His recent form includes a strong performance at the PGA Championship, where he finished second, solidifying his status as a top contender.

Joining DeChambeau are fellow U.S. Open champions Dustin Johnson (2016), Brooks Koepka (2017, 2018), and Jon Rahm (2021). Johnson, who won the last U.S. Open held at Oakmont, brings a wealth of experience at this challenging course. Koepka, a five-time major winner, looks to regain his top form after struggling in recent majors. Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, seeks to add another major to his resume after a strong showing at the PGA Championship.

Phil Mickelson, a six-time major champion, is also in the field, thanks to his 2021 PGA Championship victory. The U.S. Open remains the only major eluding Mickelson, who has finished as runner-up six times, adding extra motivation for the veteran golfer.

Several LIV golfers qualified through their world rankings and performances in LIV Golf events. Tyrrell Hatton and Patrick Reed secured their spots by being within the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Joaquin Niemann earned his place as one of the top players in the LIV Golf individual standings. Niemann has been in excellent form, winning four LIV Golf events in 2025, and is eager to translate that success to the major stage.

Adding to the LIV contingent are players who fought their way through qualifying events. Carlos Ortiz advanced through the Dallas Final Qualifier, while Marc Leishman survived a playoff at Woodmont. Jinichiro Kozuma clinched his spot through the Japan Final Qualifier, demonstrating the global reach of LIV Golf.

Richard Bland, at 52 years old, qualified by winning the U.S. Senior Open, proving that experience and skill can still compete at the highest level. Jose Luis Ballester, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, is making his U.S. Open debut after recently joining LIV Golf. Cameron Smith qualified via his 2022 Open Championship win.

These 14 LIV Golf players represent a significant portion of the U.S. Open field, bringing a mix of major champions, rising stars, and seasoned veterans to Oakmont. Their presence adds intrigue to the tournament, as they compete for one of golf's most prestigious titles.
