England's head coach, Brendon McCullum, has issued a clear message to Team India ahead of their highly anticipated five-match Test series, stating that his side knows exactly what it wants to achieve. As India prepares to embark on their new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, McCullum acknowledges the formidable challenge the young Indian team presents, but remains confident in England's direction and goals.

The series, which begins on June 20th in Leeds, marks a significant moment for both teams. For India, it's the start of a fresh WTC campaign under a new captain, Shubman Gill, following the retirements of veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The squad boasts a promising lineup of young batsmen, including Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, eager to prove themselves on English soil. One of India's primary objectives will be to secure their first Test series victory in England since 2007.

McCullum recognizes the ambition and preparation of the Indian side. He told Sky Sports Cricket, "They're an outstanding cricketing nation, who will come here with high hopes, and we are looking forward to seeing them." He also emphasized the importance of his players refreshing and refocusing after their recent six-match white-ball series against the West Indies, which they won.

England faces its own set of challenges heading into the series. Their bowling attack has been hampered by injuries, with Jofra Archer ruled out of the first Test and Mark Wood sidelined for the entire summer. Gus Atkinson is also recovering from a hamstring strain. However, Chris Woakes has been preparing by participating in a match against India A, where he bowled 32 overs and took five wickets. McCullum expressed confidence in the available bowlers, highlighting the variety in their attack. He mentioned Chris Woakes, Sam Cook, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue as options, along with the growing confidence of Shoaib Bashir.

McCullum also praised the recall of all-rounder Jacob Bethell, highlighting his poise and leadership qualities at a young age. He sees Bethell as a player with a bright future and someone who can contribute significantly to the team. He also mentioned Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett as talents to watch.

Beyond tactics and player selection, McCullum has also emphasized the importance of humility and positive messaging for his players. He urged them to "show some humility and not feel out of touch with the general population," recognizing that the team's on-field performance and off-field perception are intertwined. This call for humility comes after months of "underwhelming performances across all formats" and a perceived disconnect with the public. He wants the team to reconnect with their audience by carrying themselves well, interacting positively with the public, and sending the right messages.

The upcoming Test series promises to be a thrilling contest between two ambitious teams. India, under a new leadership and with a youthful squad, will be eager to prove their mettle in challenging English conditions. England, with a clear vision and a determined coach, will be looking to assert their dominance at home and continue their journey towards becoming the best Test team in the world.
