Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to challenge Manchester United for the signature of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo following the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new head coach. The move comes after Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australian manager leading the club to a Europa League title, ending a 17-year trophy drought. Frank, highly regarded for his tactical acumen and player development skills, has signed a contract until 2028.

Manchester United's interest in Mbeumo has been well-documented, with the Red Devils already having a bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons rejected by Brentford. United are keen to bolster their attacking options. However, Tottenham's entry into the race, fueled by Frank's arrival, has added a new dimension to the transfer saga.

Several sources indicate that Mbeumo is now intrigued by the prospect of joining Tottenham, where he would reunite with his former manager. Frank's influence could be a decisive factor, as he was instrumental in Mbeumo's development at Brentford. The forward enjoyed a highly productive season, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, helping Brentford secure a 10th-place finish in the Premier League.

Brentford are believed to value Mbeumo at over £60 million and are open to offers that meet their valuation. Tottenham have reportedly made initial inquiries about the player's availability. Some reports suggest Spurs have offered £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

Frank's previous comments about Mbeumo's future have resurfaced amidst the transfer speculation. While at Brentford, he acknowledged that selling Mbeumo would require a "nice, nice amount" and that replacing him directly would be impossible. He also stated his surprise if big clubs weren't interested in the Cameroonian international, given his abilities.

The appointment of Frank is seen as a coup for Tottenham, who were impressed by his long-standing relationship with technical director Johan Lange and their shared vision for the team's future. Frank brings with him key members of his Brentford backroom staff, including assistant coach Justin Cochrane, head of performance Chris Haslam, and analyst Joe Newton. Additionally, Andreas Georgson joins from Manchester United as an assistant coach.

For Tottenham, securing Mbeumo would be a significant statement of intent under their new manager. It would also represent a blow to Manchester United's transfer plans, as they seek to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. The competition for Mbeumo's signature is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
