TSN Analyst Debunks Canadiens-Ducks Trade Speculation: A Reality Check on Proposed Deal.

A proposed blockbuster trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks has been shot down by TSN analyst Eric Macramalla. The hypothetical deal involved swapping Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Reinbacher for Anaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish.

On paper, the trade addresses needs for both clubs. The Anaheim Ducks have been searching for a right-shot defenseman with top-pairing potential, while the Canadiens have been looking for a solid second-line center to play behind Nick Suzuki. McTavish, 22, has surpassed 40 points in each of his three NHL seasons, and is viewed by some as a potential future captain for the Ducks. The 20-year-old Reinbacher is considered Montreal's top defensive prospect and a key part of their future blue line.

However, Macramalla believes the trade doesn't make sense for the Canadiens. He argues that moving Reinbacher would leave the Canadiens with a significant lack of depth on the right side of their defense. Macramalla stressed that the Canadiens are not in a position to weaken their blue line to address their need for center depth.

Montreal fans have expressed mixed reactions to the potential trade. Some agree with Macramalla, suggesting that the Canadiens should use other assets to acquire the Ducks player. Others believe McTavish is a proven player and would be in favor of the trade.

Trade rumors have swirled around McTavish, with the Canadiens frequently mentioned. While Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek has stated his desire to keep McTavish, reports indicate he would be willing to move him for the right return. The Ducks are reportedly seeking a young, right-handed defenseman who can immediately play in a top-four role and has the potential to become a cornerstone player. Some reports suggest that Anaheim's asking price for McTavish is David Reinbacher.

The Canadiens have been actively trying to improve their team this offseason, acquiring Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders and Zack Bolduc from the St. Louis Blues in trades. General Manager Kent Hughes has also been exploring options to trade Carey Price's contract, potentially to the Chicago Blackhawks.

While McTavish would provide an immediate upgrade at center for the Canadiens, the cost of acquiring him may be too high. The Canadiens have been hesitant to trade away their top prospects. The team may prefer to explore other options for improving their center depth without sacrificing a key piece of their future defensive core.
