Tottenham Hotspur have officially completed the permanent signing of French forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. The deal, worth £29.8 million, sees the 20-year-old commit to the North London club until 2031. Tel initially joined Spurs on loan in January, and after a promising spell, the club has exercised its option to make the move permanent.

Tel's initial loan deal included an option to buy for around £50 million, in addition to a £7.3 million loan fee. However, Tottenham negotiated a reduced final price of £30 million with Bayern Munich.

During his loan spell, Tel made 20 appearances for Tottenham, including 11 starts in the Premier League, and scored twice. His debut came as a substitute against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, and he marked his first start with a goal against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

The transfer marks the first signing under new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou. Frank has reportedly given his approval for the permanent signing.

Mathys Tel came through the ranks at Stade Rennais, becoming the club's youngest-ever player in August 2021. In the summer of 2022, Bayern Munich acquired him, and he quickly became their youngest-ever goalscorer in a DFB-Pokal win. Despite his talent, opportunities were limited in Bayern's star-studded attack, prompting his loan move to Tottenham.

Capable of playing anywhere across the front line, Tel is known for his willingness to take on defenders, utilizing his pace and balance. His arrival is expected to bolster Tottenham's attacking options.

Bayern Munich board member for sport, Max Eberl, commented on the transfer, stating, "Mathys Tel came to FC Bayern as a very young player and mastered his first steps at the top level of European football here. He was a popular figure in the squad, who always gave his all for the club and the team. The move to Tottenham has turned out to be the right one for his development. He'll now continue this journey with Spurs."
