Rishabh Pant has etched his name in cricket history, surpassing MS Dhoni's record for the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper. Pant achieved this milestone during the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds on June 21, 2025. The dynamic left-handed batter celebrated his seventh Test century in spectacular fashion, highlighted by a somersault that sent fans into a frenzy.

Pant's innings was a blend of aggression and composure, reaching his century in just 146 balls. He brought up the milestone with a signature one-handed six off Shoaib Bashir, demonstrating his fearless approach. The celebration that followed was equally memorable, as Pant removed his helmet, raised his arms, and executed a flawless somersault, captivating the Headingley crowd.

With this century, the 27-year-old Pant moved ahead of MS Dhoni, who had six Test tons as a wicketkeeper. He now stands alongside other legendary wicketkeeper-batters with seven Test centuries, including Matt Prior, Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, and BJ Watling. Furthermore, Pant now holds the record for the most centuries by a visiting wicketkeeper-batter in England, with three tons.

Pant's journey to this record has been remarkable. He made his Test debut in 2018 and quickly established himself as a game-changer with his aggressive batting style and exceptional wicket-keeping skills. Before achieving the milestone of most test centuries, during the same match, Pant also became the second-fastest wicketkeeper in Test history to reach 3000 runs, achieving the feat in just 76 innings, only behind Adam Gilchrist who reached the milestone in 63 innings. During the innings, Pant also surpassed MS Dhoni's record for most away Test runs in SENA countries by a wicketkeeper.

Pant's recent form has been impressive, especially considering his performance in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) where he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a record INR 27 Crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. In May 2025, he played a memorable match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scoring 118 runs off 61 balls.

Pant's career has been marked by several outstanding achievements. He was the second-highest run-getter for India in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, scoring 267 runs in 6 matches. In domestic cricket, he has a triple century in the Ranji Trophy and holds the record for the fastest century in the Ranji Trophy, scored in just 48 balls.

Rishabh Pant's recent record-breaking century and exuberant celebration have solidified his place as one of the most exciting and dynamic players in modern cricket.
