The Nashville Predators bolstered their defensive prospect pool by drafting Cameron Reid with the 21st overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. In order to select Reid, the Predators traded the 23rd and 67th overall picks to the Ottawa Senators. The draft is taking place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 27 and June 28, 2025.

Reid, a 6-foot, 174-pound left-shot defenseman, played for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). During the 2024-25 season, he recorded 14 goals and 40 assists for a total of 54 points in 67 games, also achieving a +39 rating. While his offensive capabilities stand out, he is considered a two-way defenseman. In 14 postseason games, Reid contributed five assists but had a -5 rating. In the 2023 OHL Bantam Draft, the Kitchener Rangers selected Reid in the first round, tenth overall.

Scouting reports praise Reid's skating, hockey IQ, and two-way game. He is an exceptional skater with great speed and agility, allowing him to transition quickly between offense and defense. Reid's ability to read the game and make smart decisions allows him to effectively lead the rush or shut down plays in his own zone. While not the biggest defenseman, Reid uses his body well and relies on his skating to defend against opponents.

Reid has also represented Canada on the international stage, winning a gold medal at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2024. He also played at the U17 World Championship.

Several scouting reports suggest that Reid has the potential to become a top-four defenseman in the NHL, contributing on both special teams units. While some scouts believe his offensive ceiling may not be extremely high, his intelligence, mobility, and all-around game make him a valuable prospect. Some scouts also note that Reid needs to improve his shot selection and continue to develop physically.

Cameron Reid is close friends with Brady Martin, who the Predators also drafted. They have played spring hockey together since they were young. Martin was drafted 5th overall. The Predators also drafted Ryker Lee.
