With the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers selected winger Jack Murtagh from the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP). The pick was made Saturday afternoon during the second round of the draft.

He also played 24 games for the USHL juniors side, tallying seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Additionally, Murtagh contributed two goals and six points in seven games at the U18 World Championships. He also had two goals in two games representing the United States at the CHL vs USNTDP inaugural challenge.

Elite Prospects 2025 Draft Guide ranked Murtagh 28th overall and describes him as a complete power wing. They highlighted his explosive skating and his ability to power through opponents. His game is characterized by relentless puck battles, physical play, and a non-stop motor. He demonstrates an ability to turn puck battles into scoring chances, unleashing quick-release wrist shots while maintaining his speed. His one-timer also has the potential to be a power-play weapon in the NHL.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing around 200 pounds, Murtagh brings size and strength to the Flyers' prospect pool. He is known for his direct, honest style of play and has shown more offensive skill than initially projected. He plays with great pace and intensity and is a straight-line puck carrier and shooter.
