The 28-year-old was reportedly traveling with his brother, Andre Silva, when the accident occurred in Zamora, Spain. Silva also died in the crash.

Ronaldo's tribute read: "It doesn't make sense. We were just together in the national team, and you had just gotten married. To your family, your wife and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you".

Jota's career saw him represent clubs such as Pacos de Ferreira, Atletico Madrid B, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining Liverpool in September 2020. At Liverpool, he won the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He also represented Portugal at Euro 2022 and Euro 2024, and was a two-time Nations League winner. He missed the 2022 World Cup due to a calf muscle injury.

The Portuguese Football Federation also released a statement acknowledging the passing of Jota and his brother. "We have lost two champions. Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything we can to honor their legacy every day," the federation stated.

The tributes highlight Jota's impact on and off the field. His contributions to Liverpool were often pivotal. He was known for scoring important goals and turning draws into victories.

The news of Jota's death comes shortly after his wedding, adding another layer of tragedy to the situation. The footballing world has united in grief to support Jota's family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
