The upsets continue at Wimbledon 2025, with sixth seed and Australian Open champion Madison Keys falling to Germany's Laura Siegemund in the third round. Siegemund, ranked No. 104 in the world, delivered a stunning 6-3, 6-3 victory over Keys on Friday. The 37-year-old veteran, who had to go through qualifying, reached the round of 16 at the All England Club for the first time in her career with a near-flawless performance.

Keys struggled to find her rhythm throughout the match, committing 31 unforced errors. Her powerful baseline game faltered against Siegemund's consistency and changes of pace. Despite breaking serve early in the second set, Keys couldn't maintain any momentum. Siegemund, on the other hand, remained composed under pressure and capitalized on nearly every opportunity. She expressed her joy after the win, stating she felt no pressure and was simply playing for the love of the sport. This is Siegemund's best Grand Slam singles run since she made the French Open quarter-finals in 2020. Siegemund will face Argentina's Solana Sierra in the next round.

Keys' loss makes her the fifth of the top six seeds in the women's draw to exit the tournament early. Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Zheng Qinwen have also been eliminated. Keys' defeat also marks the 11th time a top-10 seed in either the men's or women's singles has lost so far at Wimbledon.

In another highly anticipated match, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Emma Raducanu in a thrilling encounter. Sabalenka held off the 2021 US Open champion Raducanu 7-6(8), 6-4 in their third-round match. Sabalenka needed two hours to advance to the second week of Wimbledon for the third time. She was down a break in each set but managed to grind out the win. The match was played under the closed roof as skies darkened. Raducanu showed glimpses of her special talent in a high-quality contest.
