Akash Deep's recent performance in the second Test against England at Edgbaston has been lauded not just for his cricketing prowess, but also for the emotional strength he displayed amidst personal challenges. The Indian pacer, who secured a remarkable 10-wicket haul, dedicated his achievement to his sister, Akhand Jyoti, who is currently battling cancer.

Akash Deep's sister, Akhand Jyoti Singh, has been diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in April 2025 and is undergoing chemotherapy. She lives in Lucknow with her husband. According to Jyoti's husband, she is responding well to the treatment.

Speaking to the media, Jyoti revealed she was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment while Akash was playing for the Lucknow SuperGiants in the IPL. Despite his professional commitments, Akash made sure to visit her in the hospital either before or after his matches.

The revelation of Jyoti's illness came as a surprise to her when Akash spoke about it on live television. In an interview, she expressed her astonishment at her brother's public announcement, acknowledging the significance of his gesture and the deep love he has for his family.

Despite her health challenges, Jyoti has been a pillar of strength for Akash. Before the England tour, when the family met Akash at the airport, she told him not to worry about her and to focus on doing well for the country. She told him, "I'm absolutely fine, don't worry about me, just do well for the country". According to sources, Jyoti and Akash share a close bond, and they keep each other motivated. Even during her chemotherapy, she ensured that Akash remained focused on his game.

Following India's victory at Edgbaston, Akash and Jyoti spoke twice over video call. Akash reassured her, saying, "Don't worry, the whole country is with us".

Jyoti's husband mentioned that Akash's performance would help her recover mentally and make the treatment more effective. He said that his wife is immensely happy whenever Akash takes wickets, and the family celebrates his success.

Akash Deep has faced significant personal losses in the past, including the passing of his father and elder brother within a short span of time. His sister, Akhand Jyoti, played a crucial role in encouraging him to continue pursuing his cricketing dreams during those difficult times.

Akash Deep's dedication to his sister showcases the strong bond between them and highlights his ability to perform under pressure while dealing with personal hardships. His story is one of triumph over adversity, both on and off the field, and serves as an inspiration to many.
