The New York Rangers have been making headlines recently with a flurry of activity, including player signings, potential departures, and changes in the broadcast booth. Here's a breakdown of the latest news and rumors surrounding the team:

Brendan Brisson Re-Signed

The Rangers have re-signed forward Brendan Brisson to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will see Brisson earn $775,000 in the NHL and $100,000 in the minors, with a guaranteed salary of $125,000. Brisson, a former first-round pick by Vegas in 2020, was acquired by the Rangers at the trade deadline in exchange for Reilly Smith. While he didn't get any NHL playing time with the Rangers last season, he did record two goals and four assists in 16 games with AHL Hartford.

As a two-way contract, Brisson will likely spend most of the upcoming season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate. However, he could get a chance to compete for a spot on the Rangers' fourth line or as a reserve forward during training camp. With his waiver eligibility, the Rangers will likely take a good look at Brisson to see if he can earn a spot on the roster.

Justin Dowling Joins the Rangers

The Rangers have also signed veteran forward Justin Dowling to a two-year contract. The contract is a two-year deal at the league minimum salary, featuring a one-way structure for the 2025-26 season and a two-way structure for the 2026-27 season. Dowling, 34, is coming off a career-high season with the New Jersey Devils, where he played 52 games and recorded seven points.

Dowling is expected to provide depth and experience to the Rangers' bottom-six forwards. While he may not be a regular in the NHL lineup, he can serve as a valuable "best used in case of emergency" player.

Artemi Panarin's Future in Question

The future of star forward Artemi Panarin with the Rangers is uncertain as he approaches the final year of his contract. There are rumors that the team may be open to Panarin leaving after this season, possibly due to his high salary demands.

NHL writer Lyle Richardson suggests that Panarin might need to take a pay cut to stay in New York. He notes that another missed postseason could lead to Panarin's departure. While Panarin has been a key player for the Rangers, the team may be looking to get younger and free up cap space. The Rangers face a dilemma: trading Panarin could bring back valuable assets, but it could also hurt their chances of making the playoffs.

Dave Maloney Named TV Analyst

Dave Maloney, a former Rangers defenseman, has been named the team's new television analyst for MSG Networks. Maloney, who played for the Rangers from 1974-85 and captained the team from 1978-80, will join Kenny Albert in the broadcast booth.

Maloney replaces Joe Micheletti, who retired after 19 seasons. Albert replaces Sam Rosen, who retired after 40 years as the Rangers' television voice. Maloney and Albert have worked together as the Rangers' radio broadcast team for the past 20 years. Maloney is known for his passion for the Rangers and his honest and analytical approach. He believes the team can bounce back this season, citing the addition of Vladislav Gavrikov and the hiring of Mike Sullivan as head coach as reasons for optimism.
