The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick. The deal, announced by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas on July 13, 2025, adds depth to the Penguins' goaltending roster.

Silovs, 24, is signed through the 2025-26 season and carries an average annual value of $850,000. He is coming off a career season with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League (AHL), where he led the team to the Calder Cup Championship and was named Playoff MVP. In 21 regular-season games with Abbotsford last season, Silovs went 14-5-2 with a .908 save percentage and a career-best 2.41 goals-against average. During the Calder Cup playoffs, he compiled a 16-7 record in 24 games with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage, posting five shutouts, just one shy of the AHL all-time record for a single playoff run. He became only the fourth goaltender to be named Playoff MVP.

In parts of five AHL seasons with Abbotsford and Manitoba, Silovs has a 59-35-13 record in 110 games, with a 2.58 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage, and nine shutouts. He has also played in 19 NHL games for Vancouver since 2022, recording a 3.13 goals-against average and an .880 save percentage. In 10 games with the Canucks last season, he had a 2-6-1 record, a 3.65 goals-against average, and an .861 save percentage.

Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin thanked Silovs for his contributions, particularly his role in Abbotsford's Calder Cup victory. Allvin noted that the Canucks are well-positioned in goal at the NHL, AHL, and developmental levels, and this trade provides Silovs with an opportunity elsewhere while adding a future pick and depth forward to the Canucks' organization.

Stillman, acquired by the Penguins from the New Jersey Devils on March 7, split the previous season between the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Utica Comets, registering 12 points in 65 games. He was originally a first-round pick (29th overall) by the Devils in the 2021 NHL Draft.

The trade comes shortly after the Penguins traded goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks. With Nedeljkovic gone, Silovs is expected to compete for the backup role behind Tristan Jarry. The Penguins also have young goaltending prospects such as Joel Blomqvist, Sergei Murashov, and Filip Larsson in their system.
