Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of finalizing a deal to sign Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP for an initial fee of €63.5 million, with add-ons potentially reaching €10 million. The Gunners have been actively pursuing the 27-year-old Swedish striker, who has emerged as their top target to bolster their attacking options.

Gyökeres's move to Arsenal has been gaining momentum, with recent reports suggesting that the final details are being discussed and all parties are moving towards reaching a full agreement. The player has reportedly agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract and has made it clear that Arsenal is his preferred destination, despite interest from other clubs like Manchester United.

To push through the transfer, Gyökeres has reportedly taken drastic measures, including not reporting for pre-season training with Sporting CP. This action has led to disciplinary proceedings from the Portuguese club. Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, has publicly stated that Gyökeres will face consequences for his actions but has also maintained a firm stance on the player's valuation. Varandas insisted that the club is comfortable keeping Gyökeres for the next three years if their asking price is not met. He also added that "nobody is above the club".

Despite the tough stance from Sporting, Arsenal remain optimistic that a compromise can be reached. To facilitate the deal, Gyökeres's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has reportedly waived his commission, worth around €7 million. This gesture highlights the player's strong desire to join Arsenal and the agent's commitment to making the transfer happen.

Gyökeres's potential arrival at the Emirates Stadium would be a significant boost for Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their squad after a busy transfer window. The Gunners have already added goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, and are expected to complete the signing of winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea. However, manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add a prolific striker to his ranks, and Gyökeres fits the bill.

Last season, Gyökeres enjoyed a sensational campaign with Sporting, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists in 52 matches. His impressive form helped Sporting win the Primeira Liga title. Gyökeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in July 2023 for £16.7 million. He also had a spell in England with Brighton.

The final agreement hinges on the structure of the add-ons, with Sporting seeking realistic and achievable targets. With Gyökeres pushing for the move and Arsenal determined to secure his services, a resolution is expected soon.
