Shubman Gill has provided an encouraging update regarding Rishabh Pant's injury sustained during the third Test match against England. Pant, the Indian vice-captain, took a blow to his left index finger while attempting to collect a ball during England's first innings at Lord's.

The incident occurred on the first day of the Test, forcing Pant to leave the field after 34 overs. Dhruv Jurel stepped in as his substitute behind the wickets. While Pant did bat in both innings, he appeared to be in discomfort, particularly when struck on the same hand by deliveries from Ben Stokes.

Concerns arose about Pant's availability for the crucial fourth Test in Manchester, scheduled to begin on July 23, 2025. However, Gill has eased those worries, stating that Pant underwent scans and that there is no major injury. "Rishabh went for scans. There is no major injury so he should be fine for fourth Test in Manchester," Gill said.

Pant's presence in the playing XI would be a significant boost for India. He has been a prolific run-scorer in the series, including twin centuries in the first Test and fifty-plus scores in the subsequent games. His contributions with the bat and gloves are vital to the team's balance and chances of success.

While Gill expressed confidence in Pant's fitness, he remained tight-lipped about the availability of Jasprit Bumrah for the Manchester Test. Bumrah, who has been a key bowler for India, bowled long spells in the third Test and also contributed with the bat.

Earlier reports indicated that Pant was taken off the field as a precautionary measure, with the BCCI medical team monitoring his progress. Initial assessments suggested that he had chipped a fingernail and was receiving ice treatment. The BCCI also confirmed that Pant was receiving treatment and was under medical supervision.

In Pant's absence, Dhruv Jurel took over the wicket-keeping duties. According to reports, if Pant were to be ruled out of the Test, India would not be allowed a like-for-like replacement, but a substitute who could only wicket-keep with the umpires' consent.

The five-match series currently stands at 2-1 in favor of England, after a close 22-run victory for the home side in the third Test at Lord's. India will be aiming to bounce back in Manchester and level the series. The fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford is scheduled from July 23 to July 27, 2025.
