Morgan Gibbs-White was seen training with Nottingham Forest this week, as his potential transfer to Tottenham Hotspur has hit a snag. The midfielder's move to the North London club appeared imminent after Spurs reportedly triggered his £60 million release clause. However, Nottingham Forest are reportedly unhappy with Tottenham's approach and have accused the club of "illegally tapping up" Gibbs-White.

Forest's frustration stems from their belief that Tottenham contacted Gibbs-White directly without their permission. They are also reportedly alleging a breach of confidentiality regarding the release clause, as Tottenham's bid matched the exact amount, which Forest believes should have been confidential. Forest have reportedly consulted with their lawyers and have sent a letter of complaint to both Tottenham and the Premier League. As a result, Forest has ceased all communication with Tottenham until the matter is resolved. It is understood that Forest has not yet filed a formal complaint to the Premier League, though the governing body may become involved.

Despite the dispute, Tottenham remains optimistic that the deal will eventually go through. Sources suggest that the club believes Forest's actions are only a delaying tactic and that they cannot ultimately block the transfer. Gibbs-White himself is reportedly keen on the move to Tottenham, where he would reunite with former Forest teammate Brennan Johnson and England peer Dominic Solanke. Some fans believe that Forest should let Gibbs-White leave if he is eager to join the Europa League champions.

Gibbs-White was given extra time off after playing for England last month. He has since had discussions with Nottingham Forest regarding the situation. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Gibbs-White has returned to pre-season training with Nottingham Forest. Pictures have emerged of him arriving at their training base. He has two years remaining on his contract with the club.

Forest had been eager to negotiate a new, long-term contract with Gibbs-White, including a significant pay raise. However, it is understood that Gibbs-White has declined to engage in contract talks for almost a year, indicating his desire to move elsewhere.

Gibbs-White joined Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2022 for £25 million. He played a key role in the team's success last season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 34 Premier League appearances, helping them secure European football for the first time since 1996.

Tottenham are looking to bolster their squad with the addition of Gibbs-White, and believe they can still complete a deal. Forest, on the other hand, may be looking at potential replacements for Gibbs-White.
