Doug Grimes is set to join the Miami RedHawks for the 2025-26 season, adding depth to their forward group. Grimes, a 6-foot-3, 201-pound right winger, comes to Miami University (OH) from Boston University.

Prior to Miami

Before transferring to Miami, Grimes played two seasons with Boston University, appearing in 38 games and recording three goals and one assist. During the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 15 games before a season-ending injury. As a freshman in 2023-24, he played in 24 games, scoring two goals and adding one assist. He scored his first collegiate goal against Cornell at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 25 and followed up with another goal against Merrimack on Dec. 1. Grimes also recorded his first assist on Sam Stevens' goal against UMass Lowell on Nov. 11.

Before his time at Boston University, Grimes played three seasons in the USHL, including two with the Lincoln Stars. In his final year with Lincoln, where he served as an alternate captain, he tallied an impressive 49 points with 24 goals and 25 assists. He also contributed nine points (three goals, six assists) in eight playoff games. In the 2021-22 season, he recorded 16 points with Lincoln. Grimes also played for the Sioux City Musketeers and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

Accolades and Background

Grimes was born on April 18, 2002, in Brookline, MA. He was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Role at Miami

With five additions already made via the transfer portal, Miami has significantly bolstered its depth in the forward group. Grimes is expected to bring size and grit to the RedHawks' lineup. He is one of several transfers and incoming freshmen expected to help rebuild the Miami roster.

Miami's roster rebuild is nearing completion with Grimes providing depth and leadership. The team has made five additions through the transfer portal, balancing older talent with an incoming class of 17 freshmen. Grimes and Matteo Giampa were signed by the RedHawks from the transfer portal, the fourth and fifth players inked by MU from other Division I schools this off-season.
