Morgan Gibbs-White has put an end to speculation surrounding his future by signing a new three-year contract with Nottingham Forest, committing himself to the club until the summer of 2028. This development comes after weeks of intense rumors linking the 25-year-old attacking midfielder with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The saga began earlier this month when reports surfaced that Tottenham had triggered Gibbs-White's £60 million release clause. Forest, however, reacted strongly, accusing the North London club of an illegal approach and a breach of a confidentiality agreement regarding the release clause. The club reportedly considered legal action against Spurs.

Despite the reported interest from Tottenham and the activation of his release clause, Gibbs-White has chosen to extend his stay at the City Ground. Since joining Nottingham Forest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2022, Gibbs-White has become a pivotal player for the club. He played a vital role in Forest's back-to-back Premier League campaigns and has also earned four senior England call-ups. During the 2024–25 season, he tallied seven goals and 10 assists, contributing to the club's remarkable seventh-place finish in the Premier League. Overall, he has notched 18 goals and delivered 28 assists in 118 appearances for Forest.

Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, expressed his delight at Gibbs-White's decision to extend his contract. "Morgan is a special player – not just in terms of talent, but character and mentality," Marinakis said. "He represents everything we want this football club to be: he is a winner, talented, ambitious, fearless, and proud". Marinakis also emphasized the club's determination to build their future around Gibbs-White, stating, "There was significant interest from various clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan at the heart of it".

Gibbs-White himself has spoken of his happiness at Nottingham Forest and his belief in the club's future. "I've felt at home at Forest from the moment I arrived," he said. "The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable". He added, "I believe in what we're building here – and with the backing of Mr. Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special. I'm excited for what's to come".

Gibbs-White's decision to stay at Nottingham Forest is a major boost for the club, especially after they had parted ways with Anthony Elanga earlier in the window. His energy, creativity, and leadership have made him a standout presence in the dressing room and a key part of the club's plans for the coming season, both domestically and in Europe. Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season, earning a place in the UEFA Conference League's playoff round.

For Tottenham, this marks a setback in their transfer plans. The club will now have to look at alternative options to strengthen their squad. Reports suggest that Tottenham may now consider Liverpool's Harvey Elliott as a potential alternative.
