Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Nottingham Forest, marking a swift return to the Premier League for the Australian manager. The club officially confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, with Postecoglou immediately commencing his duties on the training ground. He replaces Nuno Espírito Santo, whose relationship with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly deteriorated.

Postecoglou arrives at Nottingham Forest with a strong track record, boasting over 25 years of managerial experience and a history of winning trophies at the highest level. His previous successes include league titles with Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F. Marinos, followed by a highly successful stint at Celtic where he secured a domestic double in his first season and a treble in his second. This impressive run earned him a nomination for the FIFA World Coach of the Year in 2023. Most recently, he managed Tottenham Hotspur, leading them to a fifth-place finish in his first season, winning the Europa League in 2024/25 – their first major trophy in 17 years – and securing Champions League qualification.

Speaking to Forest TV, Postecoglou expressed his excitement and humility about taking on the new role. He acknowledged the "fantastic football club with great history" and the responsibility that comes with it. He also emphasized the club's ambition, stating, "This Club has real ambitions and that's really important to me". He further added, "I get a sense that the Club wants more and that's certainly what I want, so I think it's a really exciting period to be a part of".

Forest will be competing in the Premier League for the fourth consecutive season and will also participate in the Europa League for the first time since the mid-1990s. Postecoglou believes that this is a period of great excitement for the club and its supporters.

Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, highlighted Postecoglou's proven record of winning trophies and his experience in coaching at the highest level as key factors in his appointment. Marinakis stated, "We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies… Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey".

It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou's preferred attacking style, dubbed "Angeball," will be successful at Nottingham Forest, a team that has previously been known for a more defensive, counter-attacking approach. Some have questioned whether "Angeball" neglects the defensive side of the game and potentially impacts player fitness. However, Postecoglou's supporters maintain that his approach is not as reckless as some perceive it to be.
