In a dramatic turn of events at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal, the Indian Navy Football Team (INFT) pulled off a stunning 2-1 comeback victory against TRAU FC, securing their place in the Durand Cup quarterfinals. The match, part of Group F, saw the Navy men trailing for a significant portion before a late surge sealed their triumph.

TRAU FC, playing on their home turf, took an early lead in the 29th minute through Nelson Singh, sending the local crowd into a frenzy. Singh's left-footed shot found the back of the net after a well-executed cross from Yumnam Monis Singh, capitalizing on a long ball from Jenish Singh. For much of the game, TRAU's defense appeared resolute, thwarting the Navy's persistent attacks. Goalkeeper Sapam Nongpoknganba Singh proved a difficult barrier, denying several attempts from the Sailors.

The Indian Navy, however, refused to buckle. Despite trailing, they maintained relentless pressure on the TRAU defense, launching wave after wave of attacks. The Navy's attacking trio, Vijay Marandi, Roshan Panna, and Sreyas V.G., combined effectively with midfielders Pintu Mahata and J. Vijay, constantly probing for openings. Their persistence finally paid off in the 87th minute when Pintu Mahata found the equalizer amidst a scramble in the box. The Navy bench erupted in celebration as the score leveled to 1-1.

With the clock ticking and eight minutes of added time displayed, the match reached fever pitch. In the 92nd minute, Sreyas V.G. rose to the occasion, latching onto a pinpoint cross from Ciement and smashing it into the net, completing the incredible turnaround. The Navy bench exploded in jubilation as their team took the lead for the first time in the match.

The final whistle blew, confirming the Indian Navy's 2-1 victory and their qualification for the Durand Cup quarterfinals. Pintu Mahata's late equalizer and Sreyas V.G.'s stoppage-time winner will be etched in the memories of fans as a testament to the Navy's fighting spirit. The win also propelled the Indian Navy FT to the top of Group F, surpassing Real Kashmir FC.

For TRAU FC, the loss marked the end of their Durand Cup campaign. Despite a valiant effort and an early lead, they were unable to withstand the Navy's late onslaught.

The match was streamed live on Sony LIV and telecast on Sony TEN 2 and Sony TEN 2 HD TV channels in India. Football fans across the country witnessed the thrilling encounter, which underscored the unpredictable nature and excitement of the Durand Cup.

With this victory, the Indian Navy FT showcased their tactical brilliance and resilience, reinforcing their credentials as a team to watch in the tournament. Their journey in the Durand Cup 2025 continues as they prepare for the quarterfinals, carrying the momentum from this memorable comeback win. The 134th edition of the Durand Cup, which began on July 23, 2025, will conclude on August 23.
