The friendship between Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar has been a topic of much discussion and interest in the world of cricket. Both emerged as talented cricketers in the late 1980s and early 1990s, capturing attention with their record-breaking 664-run partnership in a school match for Shardashram Vidyamandir. While Sachin Tendulkar went on to become one of the greatest cricketers in history, Vinod Kambli's career faced numerous challenges, leading to contrasting trajectories for the two childhood friends.

Recently, Virendra Kambli, Vinod's brother, provided an update on the bond between the two cricketing stars. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Virendra clarified that Vinod never considered himself more talented than Sachin, contrary to what some might believe. He stated, "Both had the same talent. You can't say my brother was greater than Sachin or vice versa. They were both the same. I never heard my brother say he was better than Sachin".

Virendra emphasized that Sachin has consistently supported Vinod throughout their lives. "Sachin dada has always supported Vinod. Their friendship is still very strong. Sachin calls and checks on him with Andrea (Hewitt, Vinod's wife)," Virendra revealed. This highlights the enduring nature of their bond, with Sachin remaining a pillar of support for Vinod and his family.

Reflecting on their time together, Virendra shared fond memories of the camaraderie between Sachin and Vinod during Ranji Trophy matches. "Sachin dada was closest to him. I don't know about others, but I saw them together when I went to watch Ranji Trophy matches. I would go to the dressing room to eat, and Sachin dada, Vinod, and I would sit together and have fun. We would joke around and have a good time," he recalled.

In December 2024, Vinod Kambli addressed past grievances and clarified that Sachin had provided financial assistance for his surgeries in 2013. He acknowledged that his remarks in 2009, suggesting Sachin could have done more to help him, were made out of frustration. Kambli also quashed rumors that Sachin had not supported him, affirming that Tendulkar has stood by him through thick and thin.

Despite facing health challenges, including a recent health scare involving a severe urine infection, Kambli is on the path to recovery. Virendra mentioned that Vinod is currently at home, receiving treatment and gradually regaining his stability. "He is getting stable, but his treatment is on. He is having difficulty speaking. It will take him time to recover. But he is a champion, and he will come back. He will start walking and running, hopefully. I have a lot of faith in him," Virendra said.

The enduring friendship between Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli serves as a reminder of the bonds forged through shared experiences and mutual respect. Despite the ups and downs in their respective careers, their connection remains strong, with Sachin's unwavering support playing a crucial role in Vinod's life.
