Manchester City fans have received a welcome boost with manager Pep Guardiola providing an update on the return of midfielder Rodri, who has been sidelined with an injury. Guardiola has indicated that Rodri, whom he considers the "best player in the world," is ready to rejoin the squad and is in contention to play in the upcoming match against Tottenham.

Rodri's absence has been a significant blow for Manchester City. The Spanish international suffered an ACL injury in September 2024, which kept him out for a considerable period, and he has been easing his way back to full fitness. His last appearance was in the Club World Cup against Al-Hilal in early July.

Speaking ahead of Manchester City's first home game of the new season against Tottenham, Guardiola revealed that both Rodri and Phil Foden are available for selection. Both players had missed the previous game due to a lack of training. Guardiola clarified that they were not fully fit for the match against Wolves but are now ready to play against Tottenham.

Guardiola emphasized the importance of consistency for Rodri, stating he wants Rodri to have consistent training, weeks of training, games, and minutes, after which "everything will be fine".

Rodri's return provides a significant boost to Manchester City's midfield. His presence offers stability, defensive prowess, and exceptional passing range, all of which are crucial for Guardiola's tactical system. His return could be timely as City aims to strengthen their position in the Premier League.

While Rodri and Foden are back in the squad, other players remain sidelined. Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Savinho are still out with injuries. Guardiola had previously mentioned that Savinho would be out for a few weeks after picking up an injury against Palermo in pre-season.

Ederson has recovered from illness and is also available for selection. However, Guardiola has a decision to make regarding the starting goalkeeper, as James Trafford impressed in Ederson's absence against Wolves.

Manchester City began their 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite missing several key players. With Rodri and Foden now available, Guardiola will be aiming for another strong performance against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium. Spurs have proven to be difficult opponents for City in recent years, making this a crucial encounter for the Sky Blues.
