Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former Indian cricket legend Virender Sehwag, has made a noteworthy debut in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, showcasing glimpses of his father's fearless batting style. Representing the Central Delhi Kings, the 17-year-old opened the innings and immediately caught the attention of fans and cricket enthusiasts with his aggressive strokeplay.
In his debut match against the East Delhi Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Aaryavir scored a quickfire 22 runs off 16 balls, which included four boundaries. He was signed for ₹8 lakh at the DPL 2025 auction. The young Sehwag particularly impressed with his confident approach against seasoned international pacer Navdeep Saini, dispatching him for consecutive boundaries. One boundary was a crisp drive through deep extra cover, and the other was punched between extra cover and long-off. He also hit two consecutive boundaries against left-arm spinner Rounak Waghela.
Aaryavir's innings, though short, was a testament to his aggressive intent, mirroring his father's trademark style. He replaced Yash Dhull in the lineup. Despite the promising start, his innings was cut short when he mistimed a shot off Waghela and was caught by Mayank Rawat.
Even at a young age, Aaryavir is developing into a promising cricketer. In late 2024, Aaryavir grabbed headlines for scoring an unbeaten double century (200 off 229 balls, with 34 fours and 2 sixes) for Delhi against Meghalaya in the Cooch Behar Trophy, a four-day tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Under 19 players. Earlier that year, he made his U-19 debut for Delhi in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring 49 runs in a match against Manipur.
Virender Sehwag's own career remains an inspiration for Aaryavir. Known for his fearless strokeplay, Sehwag was the first Indian to score a triple century in Tests and once held the record for the highest individual score in ODIs. Aaryavir acknowledges the inspiration he draws from his father's career and is beginning to understand the magnitude of his father's achievements. Aaryavir has been working hard to get a chance to play in the IPL.
