The Premier League sack race is already heating up just weeks into the new season, with several managers under immense pressure to keep their jobs. The odds have shifted dramatically following a series of disappointing results and behind-the-scenes turmoil, making for an unpredictable start to the 2025/26 campaign.
Graham Potter, the West Ham manager, has emerged as a frontrunner in the sack race. After joining the Hammers in January 2025, his position is looking increasingly precarious, with betting sites suggesting he might not last a year at the club. West Ham have suffered a torrid start to the season, losing their opening three fixtures by heavy margins. They were thrashed 3-0 by newly-promoted Sunderland on the opening weekend, followed by a humiliating 5-1 home defeat to Chelsea and a 3-2 defeat to Wolves. With just five wins in 22 league games and a defense in disarray, Potter's odds have been slashed, making him the favourite to be the next manager sacked.
Nuno Espirito Santo of Nottingham Forest is also facing considerable pressure. Despite Forest's solid start to the league campaign with a win over Brentford and a draw against Crystal Palace, Santo is odds-on to be the first to go. Reports suggest a significant "bust-up" with Forest owners Evangelos Marinakis and Edu Gaspar, casting a shadow over his future at the City Ground.
Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United manager, has seen his odds slashed dramatically after a shock EFL Cup exit. Amorim was initially a 25-1 outsider, but his odds plummeted to 3-1 following Wednesday's penalty-shootout defeat to League Two side Grimsby. Manchester United finished a lowly 15th in the previous season and lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final, increasing the pressure on Amorim. The Red Devils began the new Premier League campaign with a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal and a 1-1 draw at Fulham before their embarrassing cup exit. Ladbrokes offered 16-1 odds on Amorim leaving before their Saturday Premier League fixture at home to Burnley and 6-1 that he wouldn't be in charge for the derby clash with Manchester City on September 14.
Daniel Farke of Leeds is also among those with shorter odds. Despite Leeds' strong promotion campaign, his poor Premier League record puts him in the sack race.
Several other managers are also being mentioned in connection with the sack race. Keith Andrews of Brentford is seen as potentially vulnerable due to his inexperience and the loss of key players, despite Brentford's top-half finish last year. Vitor Pereira is also listed among the managers with increased pressure.
Last season saw six Premier League managers sacked, and with the increasing pressure and high expectations, more managerial casualties are expected as the new season unfolds. The early weeks of the season have already brought significant shifts in the odds, highlighting the volatile nature of the Premier League and the precariousness of managerial positions.
