A National League match between Eastleigh and Scunthorpe United was abandoned in the final moments of stoppage time following a sickening head clash between two players. The game, held at Eastleigh's Silverlake Stadium on September 2, 2025, was tied 1-1 when the incident occurred.
Eastleigh defender Archie Harris and Scunthorpe's Jean Belehouan collided heavily, resulting in an immediate halt to the game as paramedics rushed onto the pitch. With both players requiring urgent medical attention, the referee directed the remaining players to return to the changing rooms before officially abandoning the match.
The collision occurred in the seventh minute of added time, shortly after Eastleigh had equalized. Harvey Saunders scored in the first minute of stoppage time, canceling out Declan Howe's late goal for Scunthorpe in the 83rd minute.
Following the incident, both clubs released statements regarding the players' conditions. Scunthorpe reported that Jean Belehouan was conscious and responsive after being taken off the pitch on a wheelchair. He was closely monitored by the team's medical staff and appeared to be "responding well to testing" in the dressing room. Eastleigh confirmed that Archie Harris had been admitted to a hospital for further evaluation. The club stated that Harris was conscious and talking.
Eastleigh posted updates on X, initially stating, "Paramedics are on the pitch and the stadium drops to silence. Our thoughts are with Archie Harris and Jean Belehouan". Later, they added, "The game has been abandoned. Once again, the thoughts of everyone at Eastleigh Football Club are with Archie Harris and Jean Belehouan".
Scunthorpe also released a statement, saying, "Our thoughts continue to be with both players here at the Silverlake Stadium as supporters are asked to leave the venue". They later updated that "Jean Belehouan has returned to the dressing room following treatment and will continue to be assessed and monitored. At this stage, JB appears to be responding well to testing. As soon as there are any other updates we will update".
Archie Harris is currently on a season-long loan at Eastleigh from Bournemouth. He is a Wales Under-21 international and has been an unused substitute for Bournemouth in Premier League match squads twice last season.
The abandonment of the match casts a shadow over what was a closely contested game. The focus now shifts to the well-being of both Archie Harris and Jean Belehouan, with updates expected from their respective clubs as more information becomes available.
