The Washington Capitals are set to host their 2025 Rookie Camp at the McMullen Hockey Arena in Annapolis, Maryland, from September 12th to 15th. This annual event provides a platform for the organization's top prospects to receive focused training and evaluation before the commencement of the NHL training camp. The 2025-26 Training Camp in partnership with MedStar Health will begin on September 18 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
Several high-profile prospects are expected to participate in the camp, including Ryan Leonard, Lynden Lakovic, Terik Parascak, Andrew Cristall, and Ilya Protas. A complete roster with all participants will be released at a later date.
This year's rookie camp will be held at McMullen Hockey Arena in Annapolis, Maryland. All on-ice sessions at McMullen Hockey Arena will be open to the public and free of charge.
The camp allows these young players to get hands-on training before the NHL training camp opens on September 18. It also gives the coaching staff an opportunity to assess the prospects' development and determine their readiness for the professional level.
While the top-tier prospects will likely command the headlines, there are other players who could also impress the coaching staff ahead of training camp. Forwards like Eriks Mateiko and Miroslav Satan might also be present. Additionally, young defensemen such as Cam Allen, Ryan Chesley, and Leon Muggli, who are likely headed to the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the 2025-26 season, could benefit from the additional training.
Other NHL teams are also holding rookie tournaments. The teams that participated in the 2024 Rookie Faceoff in Southern California have split into three separate groups, while the four Western Canadian teams that met for the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C., are also realigning. The Washington Capitals are holding their own rookie camp on their own.
The 2025 Prospects Challenge will take place from September 11-15 at LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo, N.Y., with the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, New Jersey Devils, and Pittsburgh Penguins participating. The 2025 Rookie Showcase will be held from September 12-14 at the South Suburban Sports Complex in Highlands Ranch, Colo., featuring the Colorado Avalanche, Utah Mammoth, and Vegas Golden Knights. The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers will compete in the 2025 Rookie Series on September 12-13 at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA.
