Chelsea's manager, Enzo Maresca, has recently addressed the situation surrounding Nicolas Jackson's transfer deadline day loan move to Bayern Munich. In a press conference, Maresca highlighted a potential advantage that Jackson's presence in the Bayern squad could offer to the German side ahead of their Champions League clash.
Maresca acknowledged that Jackson's familiarity with Chelsea's tactics and approach to games, gained during his time with the club, could provide Bayern Munich with valuable insights. "It can be a small advantage because [Bayern Munich's manager Vincent Kompany] can ask Nico how we work," Maresca stated. "He knows how we approach games, but at the end, we will see".
Despite this potential advantage for Bayern, Maresca maintained that he has a good relationship with Jackson. "Me, personally, I don't have any kind of problem with Nico," he affirmed. "I do not have any sort of problem with Nico. He is a good guy, a good professional and he worked well with us. That is it". Maresca also mentioned that he texted Jackson to wish him the best after his move. "I’m grateful and thankful to Nico because if we achieve what we achieved last year, it’s because all of the players, including Nicolas," Maresca said.
Jackson's move to Bayern comes after a season with Chelsea, where he demonstrated both strengths and weaknesses. Known for his pace, agility, and ability to stretch defenses, Jackson can make runs behind defenders and create space for teammates. He is also recognized for his work rate, pressing, and willingness to track back. Despite criticisms regarding his finishing, Jackson's knack for getting into good scoring positions and his improved composure have been noted.
Maresca also commented on Chelsea's goalkeeping situation for the upcoming match against Bayern Munich, confirming that Robert Sanchez will start. However, he assured that Filip Jorgensen would also receive playing time across various competitions.
Chelsea's recent activity in the transfer market suggests that they are actively looking to strengthen their squad. Reports indicate their interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, viewing him as a priority signing. However, they also have other center-back options within their ranks and are monitoring young talents. Chelsea has been linked with Juventus player Yildiz, but faces competition and a potentially high transfer fee.
Looking ahead to the Champions League, Maresca views Bayern Munich as one of the favorites. "I think Bayern Munich is a team that already showed last year that they are very close," Maresca stated. "They can compete in this competition and try to win this competition...I see them together with three or four different clubs as the favourites for this competition". Despite acknowledging Bayern's strength, Maresca emphasized Chelsea's focus on taking each game as it comes and striving to perform at their best.
