Mikel Arteta has lauded Gabriel Martinelli's readiness to be Arsenal's hero, highlighting the player's impactful performance in their recent Champions League victory against Athletic Bilbao. The Gunners secured a 2-0 win, with Martinelli opening the scoring just 36 seconds after coming on as a substitute. Leandro Trossard, another substitute, further solidified the victory with a second goal.

Arteta expressed that he observed a particular spark in Martinelli's eyes, indicating his eagerness and preparedness to contribute significantly to the team's success. Despite recent changes in the lineup due to the arrival of new signings Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze, Martinelli showcased his value with a timely goal, reminding everyone of his capabilities.

"I know how much these players want to play this competition and what it means to them, and every time you name the line-up, you are disappointing a lot of players,” said Arteta. He also added, “But to have that experience, I looked on the bench, I looked at him (Martinelli), and in his eyes I could see that he was ready, Leo as well".

Martinelli's goal not only demonstrated his individual talent but also highlighted his ability to seize opportunities and make a difference. Furthermore, he contributed as an assist provider, setting up Trossard's goal, which sealed the victory for the North London side. This performance underscores Martinelli's importance to the team and his capacity to influence crucial matches.

Arteta further commented on Martinelli's mentality, describing him as a player constantly willing to learn. He emphasized that this performance should boost Martinelli's confidence, acknowledging him as an outstanding player.

Before this match, there were questions about Arteta's team selection, but his in-game management proved effective, as the substitutions of Martinelli and Trossard significantly impacted the game's outcome. While Madueke and Eze started the match, it was the "old guard" that ultimately secured the win for Arsenal.

Arsenal's journey in the Champions League continues, and Martinelli's performance serves as a testament to his potential and his ability to rise to the occasion. His contributions, along with those of other players, will be vital as the team navigates the challenges of the competition.
